About the MKS

The Lincoln MKS was produced from model years 2009 to 2016 as a full-size luxury sedan model. It was first unveiled in 2007 at the LA Auto Show, and was the second overall Lincoln model to bear the “MK” badge, and it did so throughout its entire lifespan, unlike others such as the MKX which eventually became the Lincoln Nautilus in 2019.

When the MKS was first released, it was second only to the Lincoln Town Car in size and stature, but when the Town Car was discontinued in 2011, the MKS became the flagship sedan model. The MKS shared a powertrain with the high-specification Taurus SHO, namely a 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivering up to 365-hp.

The Lincoln MKS featured a rather stately 205.6 inches of length, making it the longest sedan sold by any US automaker at the time. It held that accolade until its discontinuation in 2016. The model did receive a facelift in 2013 where it got auto high beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind-spot warnings and other ADAS features.

Another refresh in 2015 saw some additional changes to the exterior, including a chrome trim section being added to the deck lid. Despite the changes that were made, however, the Lincoln MKS failed to live up to the increasing standard of quality and refinement that was fast becoming the norm in competing models such as the Audi A8 and many others.

Relying mostly on size and stature, the MKS limped on as a regular Lincoln production model before being replaced by the Lincoln Continental range of sedans in 2017. In the end, many buyers realized that you could buy the same kind of powertrain with a starting price as much as $10,000 less if you just opted for a Ford Taurus model.
