About the MKX

The Lincoln MKX is a mid-size crossover luxury SUV that eventually in 2019 was renamed as the Lincoln Nautilus, which it continues to be marketed and sold as. The MKX is a much older badge that goes back to the 2007 model year when the SUV was first produced.

Many Lincoln models of this period bore the name “MK,” after which was added a key letter to indicate an exact model. In the case of the MKX, the “X” stands for crossover, an appropriate moniker given that the MKX was the first crossover that Lincoln made. Now, of course, the entire lineup at Lincoln is crossovers and SUVs, as all the sedan cars have been discontinued.

The MKX badge was used both in the first and second-generation Lincoln MKX models, the first running from 2007 to 2015, and the second from 2016 to 2018. The Nautilus badge took over as part of a new facelift of the model in 2019.

The model has undergone significant changes over the years. The very first models were created as a luxury variant of the Ford Edge. It featured a chrome front grille, projector-beam headlight assemblies, chrome-accented fog lights, full leather interior, wood accents, power liftgate, reverse sensors and more.

Its first facelift came in 2011, bringing an all-new front-end design with new grille and headlight design, as well as a new interior, and a new 3.7L V6 powertrain delivering up to 305-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Both first and second generations, pre- and post-facelift models, made consistently good sales through the many model years they were available.

Additional features installed into the MKX before switching over to the Nautilus model included full adaptive LED headlights and taillights, a new Ecoboost V6 engine boosting power to 335-hp, and more.
