About the Trax

Predominantly produced by both General Motors Korea and General Motors Mexico, the Trax is a subcompact crossover SUV, and is the smallest crossover SUV manufactured by Chevrolet.

The Trax went on sale in 2013, following a successful unveiling at first the Paris Auto Show as a concept car, and later at the North American International Auto Show as a fully realized model. It shares its GM Gamma II Platform with the Chevrolet Aveo/Sonic and the Opel Mokka.

Distribution of the vehicle originally spanned Canada, Mexica, Germany, South Korea, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates and Europe. A year later in 2014, Chevrolet expanded into China, Indonesia and The Philippines. The Trax was never intended for sale in Northern America, but after the success of the Buick Encore, the decision was made to sell to the USA in 2015.

This American Trax featured a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine with 168 bhp and 6-speed automatic transmission as standard. Three trim levels were available in this market, the LS, LT and LTZ, all of which could be bought in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The 2017 Chicago Auto Show showcased an updated version which had the addition of 18-inch alloy wheels on upper models. 2020 saw another change, but this time with the removal of some premium features with the intention of suiting the intended demographic better. Things like the Bose surround sound, amplifier, subwoofer, 18-inch alloys and the chrome exterior were all removed.

Despite the 5-star award by Euro Ncap for safety, in 2022, Chevrolet made the decision to discontinue the Trax on 17th March along with another casualty, the Buick Encore. There is no intention to bring a direct replacement to market.
