About the SRX

The Cadillac SRX was initially a mid-size luxury SUV from the premium American automaker.

It was launched in 2003 for the 2004 model year offering three rows of seating for up to seven passengers in the car.

To create the SRC, Cadillac took the GM Sigma platform that was used under the CTS and the STS and stuck a tall SUV-like body to it.

Offered with either a V6 or a V8 engine, all examples were 5-speed automatics at first with that climbing to 6-speed later.

Most were rear-wheel-drive but an optional four-wheel-drive was available at the cost of additional weight to the car.

As the SRX moved into its second generation in 2010 it went through some major changes - with new dashboard symbols for the driver to learn about.

Firstly, it was built on a smaller platform that was shared with non SUV models - now being classed as a compact crossover SUV.

Being a lot lighter it was now also being fitted with smaller engines to drive down the fuel use - the V8 engine option was dropped.

It shared many of its components with similar lines across General Motors including the Chevrolet Equinox and the GMC Terrain.

In 2016 production of the Cadillac SRX was finished, with 2 new lines taking over the market segment it sat in.

Customers were now being diverted to the XT5 and the XT6 - which both sit on a new platform specifically designed for crossover SUVs.
