About the Milan

A mid-sized car built by a division of the Ford Motor Company, the Milan was named after the town of the same name in Italy, presumably in an effort to promote fashion and sophistication. The Milan lasted just 5 short years between 2006 and 2011 and the first generation debuted at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show.

Made alongside the Ford Fusion in the Hermosillo Stamping factory in Sanora, Mexico, the Milan was actually the first Mercury to hit the production line since 1995.

Sitting in between the Mercury Montego and the Mercury Grand Marquis in terms of size, the Milan was considered an entry-level mid-sized car when compared to the other 4 door sedans.

This was the first time that Mercury hadn’t offered an estate version of a model since 1940, and made upon the Ford CD 3 Platform, which was a variant of the Mazda GG Platform, it shared many characteristics with the Lincoln MKX, Ford Edge, Lincoln Zephyr and the Ford Fusion.

The Milan had a steel unibody for rigidity and front-wheel drive with a V6 all-wheel drive added later in 2007. Powertrains varied, with the initial engine built as a 2.3-liter petrol producing 160 hp, and another 2.5-liter with 175 bhp joining the lineup.

Sharing the common and traditional Ford roof line, the noticeable unique characteristics are the front end and the rear; the Mercury Milan had a cascading waterfall grille which came in with the 2007 update. In addition to these upgrades, Mercury installed better side support for potential impact, an optional DVD player, satellite navigation built into the dashboard, and MP3 capability and an auxiliary port to allow for connectivity for iPhone or android. Six trims were sold on the later models, the I4, V6, I4 Premier, V6 Premier, V6 All wheel drive and a V6 Premier All wheel drive.
