About the MKC

The Lincoln MKC was the predecessor of the now-available Lincoln Corsair. It was a compact luxury SUV crossover model produced from 2014 to 2019, with its first release being in the 2015 model year. The MKC shared a platform with the Ford Escape, namely the Ford Global C platform. The 2020 Lincoln Corsair replaced the MKC as a major refresh to the concept as Lincoln phased out all of the “MK” models.

After being unveiled as a concept model in 2013, the MKC went into production in 2014 in time for the arrival of the 2015 model year. The powertrain options included a 2.0L EcoBoost inline-4 gasoline engine, or a 2.3L EcoBoost variant of the same inline-4 design. These were paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Among the most distinctive features of the MKC’s exterior was the grand and sweeping split-wing front grille, variants of which could be seen on some other Lincoln models. This was abandoned in 2018, however, as the MKC received a final facelift for its last model year in 2019 when the grille was toned down.

The facelifted 2019 models had a competitive starting price of just $34,990, making them one of the more affordable in the market sector. The adaptive suspension available with AWD models was a particularly welcome feature that greatly enhanced ride quality. Many, however, found the MKC rather lackluster compared to competition like the Audi Q5. The MKC managed 0 to 60 in about 6.6 seconds, compared to a much brisker 5.8 from the Q5.

The interior was respectable, but nothing compared to the level of luxury you see on post-2019 Lincoln models that have since dropped the “MK” badging. There was an 8-inch infotainment screen, 10-speaker audio system, smartphone connectivity, and an optional 14-speaker premium audio system. Only the Black Label model carried the very best features, but dragged up the price significantly.
