About the Dart

The  Dart was a sedan that was produced by Dodge between 2012 and 2016. During its time on the market, there was only a single generation released.

It used the nameplate of the classic Dodge Dart car that was in production up until 1976.

Depending on the region it was sold, it was also called the Fiat Viaggio and Fiat Ottimo. It faced competition mostly from its corporate cousin, the Chevrolet Cruze, the Ford Focus, and the Hyundai Elantra.

It had a 4-door sedan layout and was offered with only front-wheel drive. There was a 5-door hatchback version, which was sold by Fiat called the Ottimo. Both of these models were built on the Compact US Wide platform which is a modified version of Fiat’s Compact Platform.

Dodge offered four trim levels. These consisted of the base SE, the mid-tier SXT, the Limited, and the top-of-the-line GT. There was also the Aero special edition, which was based on the SXT trim but had a focus on better fuel economy.

There were only petrol engines offered for the Dart. These were various turbocharged inline-4 engines. Depending on the selected trim package, these changed and were a 1.4-liter FIRE, a 2-liter Tigershark, and a 2.4-liter Tigershark engine.

The engines were mated with various transmissions, consisting of either manual or dual-clutch gearboxes. These were offered in 5-speed, 6-speed, and 7-speed models. The 6-speed version was only automatic.

The Dart was discontinued as a result of poor sales, as well as Fiat Chrysler announced that they planned to focus more on the emerging crossover SUV market.
