About the Ascent
With the company's success in crossover SUVs going back to the birth of the segment in the mid-1990s, Subaru introduced a mid-size version in 2018.
They called this new model the Ascent and built it on top of their popular Global Platform that you can also find under the Impreza and the Legacy.
It is set apart by the fact that you can buy it as a 7 or even an 8-seater which puts it in a select group competing with other automobiles such as the Kia Sorento.
You couldn't purchase the Ascent in the USA until the 2019 model year but it was a huge success once you could find one.
Subaru sold over 80,000 examples of the car in its first model year with people claiming that the ride was comfortable and quiet inside of the cabin.
Fans of Subaru models that were used to the previous performance-rich heritage of the company were a little let down by the lack of power in the Ascent.
Subaru had instead aimed to make sure that the new mid-size crossover SUV was one of the most fuel-efficient in its class and by doing so sacrificed power.
In 2020 Subaru added a rear-seat reminder warning light to the Ascent as it proved popular with families.
This dashboard symbol and corresponding warning sound remind the driver that there are occupants sitting in the back of the car.
This can be especially useful for new parents who may not yet be used to having children in the back of their car and have to remember to bring them with them.
Several high-profile cases have seen pets and children injured or even die from heatstroke because of being left in a hot car - this feature seeks to reduce this.
2021 saw the inclusion of steering-sensitive LED headlights that followed the driver as they steer around corners and illuminate more of the upcoming road.
