About the León (incl. Cupra)

Shortly after Volkswagen took complete control of SEAT in the late 1990s they launched the León.

A cheaper version of their own Golf but with a sportier body manufactured in the company's home country of Spain with a small number also made in Belgium too.

It also shared its platform initially with the Audi A3 and then the Skoda Octavia.

It was sold right away with a diverse range of gasoline and diesel engines along with a performance variant called the Cupra.

This León Cupra boasted firmer suspension and premium features inside along with a 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine under the hood.

In 2005 a second-generation version of the car hit the market using the new A5 platform again shared with the Golf and other VW brand models.

A new range of special editions was also crafted for customers including the Copa Edition, the Streetcopa and the Cupra 310.

The León built quite a cult following from European markets thanks to its sporty appeal and low cost.

A third-generation hit the market in 2012 seeing massive improvements in safety and other technological features such as LED headlights.

With the Golf platform being heavily over-engineered at this point any line that shares it is an almost instant hit with customers.

2020 saw the introduction of the fourth generation SEAT León and now with the Cupra spin-off brand operating its own lines you could now find a crossover SUV version being sold under it.

That crossover SUV version of the León is marketed as the Cupra Formentor and was the first to be launched under the new luxury wing.

Throughout the years the León has sported many warning lights and dashboard symbols that you will also find on other model lines.

It shares many of its parts with the rest of the VW range and so you will find the warning lights are near identical across these brands.
