About the Cupra Tavascan

Cupra Tavascan is a battery-electric SUV produced by Volkswagen Anhui in Hefei, China. It is a joint venture between Volkswagen (75%) and JAC Motors (25%) but sold by Cupra. The concept car was shown at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show and confirmed for production in March 2021. Based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, it was officially launched in April 2023 and is set to sell in Europe and overseas markets in 2024.

Cupra Tavascan will come in two powertrain options: Tavascan Endurance and Tavascan VZ. Tavascan Endurance has a 210 kW (282 hp) and 545 Nm (402 lb-ft) permanent magnet brushless motor powering the rear wheels, which is the same as the recently revealed VW ID.7. It comes with an electric range of 547 km, thanks to its 77kWh lithium-ion battery. The motor can propel it from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and attain a maximum 180 km/h speed.

Tavascan VZ has dual permanent magnet brushless motors (rear and front), making it a four-wheel drive SUV. The motors can produce 250 kW (340 hp) and 545 Nm (402 lb-ft), higher than mechanically similar 2024 Skoda Enyaq vRS. VZ has an electric range of 517 km and a maximum speed of 180 km/h. Like the Endurance, it has a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery and can move from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.

Both powertrains come with 135 kW DC fast charging, topping up the battery from 10-80% in half an hour. They share several features like cargo space of 0.54 cubic metres (540 litres), 21-inch alloy wheels, dark night microfiber bucket seats, front, and rear illuminated Cupra logos, travel park assist 2.6, matrix LED headlights, 15.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, trained park assist, and remote park assist.

Cupra Tavascan rivals include Genesis GV60, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Nissan Ariya, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Polestar 4.
