About the G6

The Pontiac G6 is a mid-size car that was in production between 2004 and 2010. General Motors eventually discontinued the model as a result of the discontinuation of the Pontiac brand as a whole.

There was only a single generation released for this iteration, but it does represent the sixth generation of the Pontiac Grand Am, which is why it was given the name “G6.”

It featured various layouts which consisted of a 2-door convertible, a 2-door coupe, and a 4-door sedan. This was built on top of the GM Epsilon platform and was outfitted with a front-wheel drivetrain.

It sits in the middle of Pontiac’s lineup at the time, being larger than the G5 and smaller than the G8.

Competition models from outside Pontiac include the Dodge Avenger and Chevrolet Malibu.

There were only two trim levels offered initially, the base V6 and the GT model. Pontiac later introduced a cheaper four-cylinder version called the SE trim, as well as the high-performance GTP.

Pontiac offered various powertrains depending on the trim levels. All of these were petrol. The various V6 options ranged from 3.5-liter up to 3.9-liter engines. Upon the release of the SE trim, Pontiac released a 2.4-liter inline-4.

Transmissions consist of a single 4-speed automatic gearbox, as well as manual and automatic 6-speed transmissions depending on the trim.

Pontiac gave the G6 several yearly updates until its discontinuation rather than significant facelifts at intermittent times. These included everything from updated exterior styling to new engine and transmission lineups.

Upon its discontinuation, GM began to market the Buick Regal as its replacement.
