About the Rogue (incl. Sport)

Nissan’s SUV range has long been varied and interesting, but in the 21st century, it has really grown to its most competitive. One model in the American market that does very well in the American market is the Nissan Rogue, and one of its offshoots, the Rogue Sport. The latter is a similar but smaller version of the Rogue that is often badged as the Qashqai in other markets.

The Rogue and Rogue Sport compete in a tough segment against the Mazda CX-5, Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and others. The Rogue was always popular but one criticism of older models was its lazy acceleration despite an apparently strong 2.5L engine. The latest version gets a 1.5L 3-cylinder engine with 201-hp delivering punchier performance. It also helps that the CVT has been updated to be more of a friend to acceleration rather than a hindrance.

The Rogue Sport still has a 4-cylinder unit but only manages up to 141-hp, but this isn’t so important to the main city-dwelling Rogue Sport demographic, which loves the SUV for its efficiency, stylish looks and more compact frame that makes it perfect for city streets. The regular Rogue is larger, up for more adventure and to that end can store up to 74.1 cubic feet or cargo!

Both models are affordable with starting prices well under $30,000. The Rogue starts at $26,850 brand new, and the Rogue Sport at $24,460. Both are also impressively efficient, the former getting 30-mpg in the city, and 37-mpg on the highway. The latter gets 25-mpg and 32-mpg respectively. This means the new engine in the larger Rogue is doing its job!

The 2 Nissan Rogues share a lot of DNA but generally serve 2 different audiences. The Rogue Sport is more of a city car, and the Nissan Rogue is more of an all-rounder. Together they form a strong mid-range selection in the Nissan SUV range.
