About the Range Rover Evoque

The Range Rover Evoque has long been regarded as one of the most stylish subcompact SUVs on the market and attempts to back up this style with some respectable performance too. It’s been on the roads since 2011 and faces some tough competition from the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X3. Whilst the Evoque clearly has the advantage of style and prestige over its rivals, it does fall short in a number of ways. The most disappointing features of the Evoque are its small interior, terrible fuel economy and otherwise mediocre power and handling. Ultimately, the SUV is more style than substance, and there are better choices out there.

The first wave of disappointment comes from the lackluster engine. Base Evoque’s come equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, turbocharged engine which produces just under 250 horsepower. Whilst this may seem like a good base, the Evoque simply can’t keep up with the likes of the Volvo XC40 and BMW X1. You can upgrade to an engine that produces 296 horsepower, but this still feels slower than the top rivals. So, if you’re looking for a fast SUV, you might want to look elsewhere.

Land Rovers are also known for their terrible fuel economy, and the Evoque is no different. Your fuel warning light will come on far quicker than any competitor, making the car an even more expensive choice long-term.

Thankfully, the Range Rover Evoque does impress once you enter the cabin. Built from high-quality materials, including leather, the cabin feels very luxurious and prestigious. There’s a good amount of technology and infotainment too. For instance, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen centre comes as standard on all models. This is compatible with Land Rover’s Pivi Pro interface too, which is a very useful feature.
