About the Defender

If you’re looking for a capable, stylish, comfortable and practical off-road SUV, then look no further than the Land Rover Defender. Released in 1983, the Defender has consistently outclassed its rivals, like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, in a number of areas, most notably off-road capability and refinement. Although, the model does miss the mark on a few key areas. For instance, the equipped engines are very thirsty and produce poor performance, and the price tag is much higher than the competition. Ultimately, however, the Defender is one of the most capable and practical off-road SUVs on the market.

Under the hood, the Defender has a few options to choose from. The 2022 model comes with a four-cylinder engine, with a turbocharger, as standard. This isn’t a bad engine, but it also isn’t a good one. The Defender feels a little slow and sluggish and can’t keep up with its competition with the base engine equipped. The story does change if you opt for the supercharged V8, however. Producing over 500 horsepower, this engine feels much more capable and makes the Defender’s performance excellent.

However, the Defender is one of the thirstiest cars on the market, and you can expect your fuel warning light to pop up a ridiculous number of times!

One of the Land Rover Defender’s best features is its suspension and handling, which really bolster its off-road capabilities. The steering is sharp and responsive, which will give you the precision you need when traversing tough terrain. And the suspension is near-perfect and will soak up whatever the road has to offer, leaving you with a comfortable ride no matter the terrain.
The interior of the SUV is very respectable, with comfortable seating and a good level of infotainment too.
