About the Discovery Sport

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a compact SUV that aims to impress potential buyers with its keen looks, great offroad capabilities and excellent interior design. The Discovery Sport certainly lives up to these expectations but fails to impress when it comes to engines and performance. Not only are the engines extremely thirsty, but they’re also extremely lacklustre and deliver poor performance. Ultimately, the offroader is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a compact SUV with great offroad capabilities, but if you’re looking for something well-rounded and luxurious, you might want to look elsewhere.

This Land Rover's main competitors are the Audi Q5 and Volvo XC90. The market has been dominated by these brands since the Sport’s release in 2014.

The first, and probably biggest, problem with the Land Rover Discovery Sport is its engine. Standard models come equipped with a four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger. This produces a mere 246 horsepower and will accelerate the Sport from 0-60 in just under 8 seconds. So, the car really doesn’t live up to the name ‘Sport’, and the overall feel of the engine is very lacklustre.

The general ride of the Discovery Sport is, thankfully, very respectable. As an off-roader, the car  has excellent suspension, that will soak up all of the road’s imperfections and leave you with a very comfortable ride in the cabin. The steering is also sharp and precise, which makes for a comfortable driving experience.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport also comes with a good array of handy features. For instance, you’ll be able to wade in 23.6 inches of water. So, the warning light for water will probably never come on! Furthermore, there is a great touchscreen infotainment centre in the cabin.
