About the E-Pace
The Jaguar E-Pace is the company's subcompact luxury crossover SUV. The E-Pace entered the market as of 2017, becoming the second production SUV from Jaguar under JLR.
Like most subcompact SUVs, the E-Pace comes in a 5-door configuration. It comes on the JLR PTA platform.
Styling takes clear inspiration from the F-Type, although in an SUV form. This comes as no surprise given the success the F-Type saw in 2013.
The E-Pace is often compared to German variations in the subcompact SUV class. These are most commonly the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes GLA. The excellent Volvo XC40 series is also considered competition.
Being a subcompact Jaguar means the E-Pace is not short of luxury fitting, quality performance, and comfort.
Trim levels include the basic E-Pace, followed by the R-Dynamic, and finally R-Dynamic Black. There is also the P300, a facelifted version of the E-Pace with its own unique trim.
You would be forgiven for thinking the ‘E’ in E-Pace is for electric. The E-Pace comes with the options of a 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4 Ingenium in petrol or the 2-liter turbocharged Ingenium diesel.
The D, for diesel, and P, for petrol, initial after each model number helpfully shows the power output in horsepower, a rather simple way to help consumers decide which model they want.
All of these front-mounted engines are mated to either an 8-speed or 9-speed automatic transmission with the options for front-wheel or all-wheel-drive.
Jaguar does offer a mild-hybrid boost technology in all engines, but as of its release in 2018, the I-Pace boasts Jaguar’s only electric offering. This electric boost comes courtesy of a 48 V synchronous reluctance motor.
