About the Equinox

The Equinox is Chevrolet’s compact crossover SUV. Originally the model was slightly larger than it is now, but due to demands and new lines being introduced, it has moved down from the mid-sized SUV category. When it was introduced by Chevrolet to the North American market, it replaced its predecessors the Chevrolet Tracker and The Chevrolet Trailblazer. In 2015 the Equinox also replaced the Captiva Sport.

The first generation was showcased at the Detroit Auto Show and having been built on the GM Theta platform, shares its makeup with the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL-7. Despite having the same platform, the Equinox and the XL-7 are slightly larger than the Vue. Chevrolet set rear-wheel-drive as standard with the option to upgrade to all-wheel-drive for an extra cost. This was kept as an optional extra and not standard as the Equinox is not really equipped to deal with heavy off-roading.

In 2010 the second generation debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, it had a pair of upgraded gasoline direction injection engines, better fuel economy than its p[predecessor and the option of either a 2.4-liter engine or 3-liter V6. A facelift took place in 2013 where a DVD entertainment package was installed along with Chevrolet's safety package to include land departure warning, forward collision warning and rear park assist. It came in three colors, champagne, Atlantis metallic and tungsten metallic.

Arguably the most noticeable change happened in 2016 when Chevrolet took the decision to shrink the size of the Equinox (its former role having been replaced by another model, the Chevrolet Blazer). There were three engine choices with a new safety surround view and low-speed auto-braking. Four trim levels were offered here; L, LS, LT & Premier. The 2022 facelift added a new grille, modified tail lamps and a different bumper.
