About the Verano

The Buick Verano is a compact car made by General Motors under their Buick brand since 2010. It first debuted at the North American International Auto Show on January 10th, 2011.

The Verano was the first compact car built by Buick in Northern America since the 1998 Skylark. "Verano" translates into Spanish means ‘Summer and it shares the GM Delta 2 platform with the Chevrolet Cruze and corresponding MPV models such as the Chevrolet Orlando and Opel/Vauxhall Zafira Tourer.

The first generation debuted in 2011 and was designed by a team led by Jim Federico, the executive director and chief engineer of the Verano. It featured a unibody construction and used galvanized steel for the front fenders, hood, roof and door panels. General Motors worked hard to minimize road noise and as a result incorporated acoustically laminated glass, triple door seals and sound-absorbing floor mats. The standard powertrain for the first generation was a 2.4-liter direct-injected 6-speed auto transmission with a manual transmission being made available in 2012.

Buick claimed the vehicle could reach 60 mph in under 6.3 seconds. In 2016 a Sport Touring Edition joined the group and had a lip rear spoiler. The Verano was phased out of the American market towards the end of 2017 after which it was sold exclusively in China. This meant that Buick no longer had an entry-level Sedan for the American market.

The second-generation (2016) was longer, lighter and had better fuel efficiency. There was a larger amount of interior space and was offered as both a sedan and a hatchback. In 2021, the third generation showcased at the Shanghai Auto show, looking fairly similar to the facelift model of 2016, Buick renamed this version the ‘Buick Verano Pro,’
