About the Range Rover Velar

Range Rovers have always been some of the best-looking cars on the road, and the Velar is no exception. Both inside and out, the Velar has outclassed its competition, like the Audi Q5 and Jaguar F-Pace, in the looks department. But, every version of this car, from its release in 2017, to the newest version in 2022, has had some glaring problems. For instance, the performance of the Velar is miles (literally) behind its competition. Furthermore, the vehicle is one of the most expensive luxury SUVs on the market, and you could buy a much better car from BMW or Jaguar for much less. So, whilst the Velar is extremely attractive on the surface, in reality, it’s outclassed by all of its rivals and too expensive for most people to consider.

The start of the disappointment with the Range Rover Velar comes from the engine under the hood, which even the 2022 model hasn’t been able to fix. Base models come equipped with a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder engine. This produces 247 horsepower and will accelerate the SUV from 0-60 in 7.4 seconds. Compared to the competition, the Velar’s speed and acceleration simply aren’t good enough. The SUV feels slow and sluggish and overall uninspiring to drive. The engine choices are at least reliable, and you won’t have to worry about any warning lights popping up as you drive.

Thankfully, Land Rover did do an excellent job with this model's overall ride. The suspension will soak up all of the bumps and potholes in the road, leaving you with a quiet and refined ride in the cabin. And the handling is capable of keeping the Velar tight and controlled in corners. Other Range Rover models have been critiqued for body roll, but the company has fixed this with the Velar.
