About the i30

The Hyundai i30 is a family car that prides itself on its safety. However, whilst it is a safe car, it’s also a pretty boring one. Hyundai has got the basics right with the i30, but they have also failed to capture any personality in the car. If you’re looking for a reliable and safe family car, this might be a great choice. But, if you want a little excitement, you might want to look elsewhere.

Under the hood, the i30 is equipped with a 1.0-litre T-GDi with a 48V electric motor. This gives the car an acceleration time of 11.2 seconds, which is slower than all of its rivals like the Ford Focus and the VW Golf. That being said, the engine is more than enough to get you from A-B, and you won’t notice the lack of power in everyday driving.

One of the best parts of the Hyundai i30 has to be its sublime suspension. Whether you’re on the motorway, an unmaintained backroad, or even a gravel road, you won’t feel a thing in this car. The suspension will soak up all the bumps, so that you and your family can ride in peace. The comfortable suspension does compromise crisp handling, but if you’re not looking to speed round corners, you probably won’t even notice this anyway.

The interior carries on the solid, yet dull theme. The overall build quality is solid but lacks any imagination and style. There’s plenty of better options on the market too. So, if you’re looking for something a little more stylish, consider a Mazda or a BMW.

As for infotainment, the i30 comes with an 8-inch touchscreen as standard. This is overall a very solid touchscreen, with sharp graphics and excellent response times. It even outclasses its rivals from Ford and Seat, making the i30 a great choice for tech lovers.
