About the Matrix
What do the Toyota Matrix warning lights on the dashboard mean?
The Matrix has some distinct warning lights that are not common to all models from the Japanese automaker.
These warnings can be confusing, but we will try and make sense of them for you.
Originally the Matrix was known as the Corolla Matrix because the car was built on the same chassis but this was changed quickly.
The first set of lights that you might see are the power or charging system warning light.
This is a yellow warning indicator and it will be illuminated if your car’s battery has a problem, such as not being charged properly.
It alerts you to check the fluid levels in the cell cover for water and dirt contamination, poor electrical connection and corrosion.
The next warning light to come on would be the oil change indicator if it has been over a year since you last changed your engine’s oil.
This is an orange or yellow lens that will tell you when it is time for another oil change, so pay attention to it and don’t forget to use high-quality synthetic oil.
The check engine warning light is always on when your OBD system detects an issue.
This could mean anything from a loose gas cap to something more serious like the catalytic converter, which requires immediate attention by a mechanic.
