About the Splash

The Splash is a small city car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Suzuki. It was the result of a combined effort from both Suzuki and Opel, as a result, the Opel version carried the name badge ‘Agila.’

The concept car was showcased at the Paris motor show with the production model debuting at the Frankfurt auto show. In Europe, in terms of size, the Splash sits just under the Suzuki Swift and uses the same wheelbase, just a little shorter. There are a number of additional Suzuki models in Japan when compared to other regions, and in Japan, the Swift is again, smaller than the Swift, but larger than the Solio.

The Splash comes in a variety of engine configurations, a range of petrol and a 1.3-liter turbo diesel. In India, the Splash is rebadged as the ‘Maruiti Suzuki Ritz,’ Ford had already registered a ‘Splash’ of the Indian market and so Suzuki was forced to change the name.

The Indian market proved extremely popular where 200,000 units were sold in just under 38 months. In India, there were ten different engine options, five petrol and five diesel. The diesel engines in the Splash were powered by Fiats 1.3-liter MultiJet turbodiesel engine. These engines had a reputation for providing excellent fuel efficiency and great performance.

From March 2010, Suzuki sold the Splash to the Indonesian market as an import from India, but the availability was short-lived with Suzuki ending sales in 2016. In China, the Splash has another name, the Changhe Suzuki. In 2014, Suzuki pulled the Splash from Europe and replaced it with the 2nd generation Ignis in 2016.
