About the Crosstrek

In 2012 Subaru introduced its first subcompact crossover SUV the Crosstrek to the world.

They built it on the Impreza platform and intended on it taking over from that model in the USA as sales were dwindling.

It shares a lot in common with the Impreza with many people saying that it's essentially just a "jacked up" version of it.

Customers were offered this car with either a 1.6-liter or 2-liter gasoline boxer engine - in some markets a 2-liter turbodiesel was offered.

From 2013 onward a mid-hybrid version of the Crosstrek was sold which featured a battery stored in the boot where the spare wheel would be.

These hybrid models were fitted with a CVT though the non-hybrid versions were fitted with either an automatic or manual transmission.

In 2014 Subaru added a Hybrid Touring trim that allowed buyers of the hybrid model to access premium features within it.

For the 2017 model year, the Subaru Crosstrek received a major update and entered its second generation of design.

It was moved onto the generic Global Platform that Subaru uses underneath many of its lines including the Impreza, Legacy and the Ascent.

By doing this the new Crosstrek could access drivetrains and engines only seen on other models for the first time.

You could now get the car as a plug-in hybrid that has a range of 17 miles on electricity alone but combined with fuel as well could stretch out to 480 miles in total.

During a facelift in 2020, the new Subaru Crosstrek was offered with a 2.5-liter engine for the first time - mated to a CVT.

This new powerful engine option gives buyers the option to access 182bhp of power if they desire.
