About the Antara (Captiva, Vue)
The Opel Antara is a compact crossover SUV produced by Open (Vauxhall in the UK) from 2006 to 2015 in Europe, and continuing today under license elsewhere. The identity of the Antara is a little complex, since it shares its platform with a number of global brands and model names.
Other names for the Opel Antara include: the Holden Captiva (Australia), Saturn Vue (US), GMC Terrain (Middle East), Daewoo Winstorm MaXX (South Korea), Chevrolet Captiva Sport (Americas, except Chile).
The very first Antara created was the Opel Antara GTC concept car that was first shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2005. That model was based on the design for the Chevrolet T2X SUV. While both of these models were 3-door SUV models, the final production model was launched as a 5-door SUV model.
While it shares many different names, the mechanics are the same. After being launched in 2006, it was facelifted in 2010, with production ending in the European market in 2016 to replace it with the Opel Grandland X in 2017.
The 2010 facelift saw a new front-end design being implemented, as well as a refreshing of the front and rear light arrays. On the inside, the Antara received a new center console, additional storage space, new graphics for the instrument cluster, and added features such as an electronic parking brake and a hill assistance system.
Manual transmission versions also received a “shift up” indicator that was designed to help drivers get the best-possible fuel economy from the Antara.
Many powertrain options have been offered across various markets, ranging from a 2.4L inline-4 gasoline engine to a 3.6-liter V6. There were also diesel options, and a plug-in hybrid variant with a 2.4-liter Ecotec inline-4 engine or 3.6-liter V6 unit. Transmissions ranged from 6-speed manual to 6-speed automatic, and a CVT.
