About the Kicks

The Nissan Kicks is the entry-level Nissan SUV designed to occupy the same space as the Nissan Juke in other markets, though the Kicks does have some key design differences. Its front-end design is completely different from the grille to the headlights, air intakes and the rest. The style of the rear doors is also different, and the Kicks is also somewhat more affordable in the US market.

The Kicks is an efficient SUV delivering 31-mpg in the city and 36-mpg on the highway, but not the most powerful with its 4-cylinder engine delivering just 122-hp. It’ll take you almost 10 seconds to get from 0 to 60 in the Kicks, but it impresses in other ways. It comes in the S, SV, or SR trim levels, none of which exceed $24,000 as a starting price, making it eminently affordable as an entry-level SUV.

The Nissan Kicks isn’t an adventure ride like some other Nissan SUVs and trucks in the lineup, but it is certainly a comfortable ride. The suspension is well-tuned to absorb vibrations and bumps on even the least well-maintained roads. For city and suburb dwellers, it provides a comfortable and affordable family car.

Some are a little disappointed by the interior of the Kicks because it doesn’t seem to fully line up with its edgy and sporty exterior on the outside. The rear seats are a bit cramped for adults, to be sure, but 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space as standard, going up to 32.3 cubic feet with the rear seats down is pretty impressive.

Like its Juke counterpart, the Nissan Kicks starts with basic gear like a 7-inch infotainment screen and 6-speaker audio system, but if you climb the trim ladder you get an 8-inch system and Bose premium sound.

On the whole, it’s an SUV that offers a great starting point, but it doesn’t have enough space in it to be the truly “big” family car that some are looking for.
