About the Lancer

The Mitsubishi Lancer is a sports sedan that attempts to blend performance and practicality. However, the company actually misses the mark in pretty much every way. The engine choices are lackluster, to say the least, and if you want a sports sedan with excellent performance, you’d be better off opting for a Kia Stinger or Porsche Panamera. Since its release in 2001, the Mitsubishi has had one of the worst interiors of any sports sedan on the market. As such, if you’re looking for value for money, you should stay as far away from the model as possible.

Any sports sedan needs a good base engine, and this is where the lancer makes its first mistake. Base models are fitted with a 2.4-liter incline four-cylinder, which produces just 168 horsepower. This might not sound very sporty, and it is not! With the base engine equipped, the Lancer feels more like a hatchback than a sedan, and you’ll even struggle to get up to motorway speeds.

You can upgrade the engine to a 1.8 cylinder, which will bump up the horsepower to 170. This makes the Lancer more capable in everyday situations, but it’s still monumentally slower than its rivals.

The overall ride of the Lancer is equally as disappointing. The steering feels disconnected, which both takes away from the driving experience and makes the Lancer feel sluggish. And the suspension is so firm that you’ll feel every single crack on the road. In fact, the Lancer should come with a warning of long-term back pain!

The infotainment system is also poor. In fact, the only thing that will consistently work is the warning lights! If only they could have warned you to stay away from this car!
