About the Rondo
The Kia Rondo is a hot hatchback that offers great features for an even better price. It may not look like the most exciting car on the market, but its affordability, coupled with great performance make it one of the best hatchbacks on the market.
Kia opted for a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with the Rondo (a model also known as the Carens in some markets). This produces modest power, but thanks to the lightweight bodywork, the car feels fast and exciting to drive. It’ll get up to motorway speeds in no time either, so the Rondo is perfect for commuters.
The overall ride is surprisingly comfortable too. The suspension is a little hard, so you will feel potholes and bumps in the road, but on the whole, it’s very comfortable, whilst offering a good overall performance.
The interior of the car doesn’t fail to disappoint either. Kia offers modern and minimalistic leather upholstery, which makes the Rondo feel much more expensive than it actually is. You’ll also get a decent amount of tech for the money, such as Bluetooth connectivity and stability management.
Storage is good for a hatchback, and you’ll comfortably fit 3 passengers, or 4 at a squeeze. Boot space is limited, but not terrible. If you like coffee you’re in luck too, as the Rondo offers 8 cupholders!
The Kia Rondo scored an overall safety rating of five stars. This makes the car excellent for new drivers, drivers with small children or even anyone concerned with safety. The Rondo passed practically all safety tests, with particularly good whiplash protection.
The Rondo has unfortunately been criticized for its reliability. Many drivers have reported numerous problems with integral parts of their car, such as the engine, power steering and even the brake pedals. Less common problems include suspension failure. This perhaps shows that the car isn’t the best value hatchback on the market.
In terms of similar competitors, the Kia Seltos uses many of the same components but in a smaller wheelbase format in some markets. From other automakers, you can also find similar models such as the Ford C-Max in Europe and the Mazda MPV in the USA.
