About the Santa Cruz

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is an excellent mid-size pickup truck. It’s one of the most distinct models that Hyundai has ever released, and it even outclasses its biggest rivals in key areas, such as the interior. However, this crossover-pickup truck does fall short in terms of its power.

This disappointment is because of what’s fitted under the hood. Hyundai opted for a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This produces 191 horsepower and is overall incredibly disappointing. Luckily, the company offers an alternative, which is leaps and bounds better. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged option, producing a much healthier 281 horsepower. This power is then sent to all four wheels, and the overall handling is excellent with the better engine.

Unfortunately, the Hyundai Santa Cruz is unable to keep up with its rivals in terms of towing capacity. The standard engine can only tow 3500 pounds. This is very poor when compared to the Jeep Gladiator, which can pull 1500 more than the Santa Cruz. So, if you’re looking for a truck with a big towing capacity, this lighter model probably isn’t for you.

The cabin is where the Santa Cruz really shines, and it’s leaps and bounds ahead of its competition. Drivers will be greeted by an incredibly elegant and modern design, which makes use of matt black and extremely sturdy plastics. The overall build quality feels luxurious and sturdy, and worth much more than you paid for.

Finally, the Santa Cruz is fitted with an excellent infotainment system. An 8-inch touchscreen comes as standard, but this can be upgraded to a 10.3-inch model. As with most Hyundai’s, this touchscreen is incredibly responsive, and features great graphics. Although, some users may find the lack of physical dials off-putting.
