About the Kona

The Hyundai Kona is a hybrid SUV that intends to compete with premium competitors such as the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. It certainly blows its competition out of the water with its modern styling. However, it does fail to deliver in terms of performance and practicality.

Under the hood, the Hyundai Kona is equipped with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine. This sounds pretty dull, and it is. Overtaking can feel like a big ask from the Kona, and the addition of an electric motor really doesn’t help. So, if you’re looking for an SUV that will feel fun whilst driving, or you want something that feels quick, this Hyundai certainly isn’t for you.

Despite the poor engine choice, Hyundai has done a great job with the handling. You’ll be able to put all the Kona’s power into every corner, thanks to the sharp handling and great suspension. This can make the car a little more exciting to drive. The suspension also makes the ride incredibly comfortable.

The interior of the Kona has received a facelift in recent years, and it certainly needed it. The interior is now comprised of black materials. The plastics feel fairly cheap, but they do get the job done. The overall styling is great if you prefer a minimalistic design, but if you like something with a bit more character, the Kona is unable to deliver.
