About the i40

The Hyundai i40 is an executive car that stands out from the rest of the pack with its unique styling and notably low C02 emissions. However, the i40 is simply unable to keep up with its German competition. Executive cars from Audi, BMW and Mercedes are simply better in every way, which makes it hard to justify purchasing this Hyundai.

Under the hood, the i40 is equipped with a 1.7-liter diesel engine, producing 139 horsepower. This is actually pretty quick and makes the car more than capable of most tasks, from simple town driving, to overtaking on motorways. The problem isn’t with Hyundai here- it’s with its competition. Pretty much every other executive car will offer a better engine, that produces more power, makes less noise and is more economical.

The same is true with the suspension and steering. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with either of these things. But the German rivals do it better. The fact that Hyundai can’t keep up with these competitors somewhat suggests that the i40 is a little pointless.

When you enter the cabin, you’ll be greeted by a very boring and dull cabin. The materials and design feel very outdated and old, and the overall build quality hardly screams quality. Couple this with an uncomfortable ride for passengers, and the i40 certainly isn’t winning any competitions.

The same is true for the infotainment system. As standard, drivers will get an analog radio, but you can upgrade to a 7-inch touchscreen. This is fine, but again, German competition will offer better technology for the same price.

The Hyundai i40 scored an overall safety rating of 5 stars. This is a big advantage for the i40, as some rivals only score 4 stars. However, this is the only area in which the Hyundai is able to keep up with its German counterparts.
