About the Ranger

Since the early 1980s, the Ford Ranger has been on sale in many of the continents around the world, although it started as a North American model only.

It wasn't until the late 1990s that the pickup truck went global and with the help of Mazda rebadging it out to all major car-buying territories.

Originally the truck's design was very basic but with every evolution, the design of the Ranger truck looks more stylish and boasts better safety and comfort features.

Ford sells huge numbers of their larger F-150 pickup truck in the United States but keeps this line going as an entry-level for customers with a smaller budget.

Currently, the Ford Ranger is in its fourth generation that hit showrooms in 2018 and customers could choose from a range of 2-3-liter gasoline or diesel-powered engines.

For a high-performance pickup truck that costs less than the F-150 Raptor, you can go for the Ranger Raptor trim, launched in 2018.

Raptor trim versions of the truck feature a twin-turbocharged diesel engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with upgraded suspension and aggressive styling.

Sales have remained strong in many of the regions around the world the Ranger is sold but is a drop in the ocean when compared to the larger F-150.

Common Ranger Warning Lights

The most common warning lights that people come to this site to learn about include the:

  • Adblue - this is the blue-colored liquid that needs replacing in modern engines to reduce emissions, seeing this warning means you need to top it up.
  • Master Warning Light - this appears when the Ranger's onboard computer detects a serious issue with the car, it appears as an exclamation mark within a triangle.
  • Powertrain Fault - A spanner warning light means that the car has detected an issue in the powertrain, essentially the mechanical parts of the car that transmit power from the engine to the wheels.
  • Airbag Warning - when switching the pickup truck on the airbag warning should stay on for a second but then turn off. If it stays illuminated then a fault has been detected and it most likely will not inflate in the event of a collision.
  • ABS - if the ABS warning light has been illuminated in your Ford Ranger then it means that the module has switched off due to a fault being detected. The brakes will most likely continue to work but without aid from the ABS.
