About the Envision

The Buick Envision is a compact crossover SUV built by General Motors. The Envision is made exclusively in China for the domestic market and Northern America.

It started life as a concept car in 2011 which was a small crossover with scissor doors. These doors seemed flamboyant on an otherwise functional car and can be found as a feature on sports cars like the Lamborghini Countach. The concept car was also a plug-in hybrid.

The first generation officially went on sale in 2014 in China under the name ‘Ang Ke Wei’ on 26th October. Buick took the Envision to the Northern America International Auto Show on the 11th of January 2016 with the intention of making it the first Chinese-built General Motors vehicle sold in the United States.

All-wheel drive came as standard with the option to add front wheel drive instead in 2017. There were two powertrains, a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 197 horsepower and a turbocharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine boasting 252 horsepower. Both choices had 6-speed automatic transmission. 2016 brought forward just two trims, Premium I and Premium II.

The Envision had a facelift in 2019 with a new style applied to the rear end and a change in the taillights.

The second generation came out with a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, offering 228 horsepower and 9-speed automatic transmission. Buick gifted this new model with their suite of safety features, including, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning and forward collision alert. The number of trims available doubled to four; the Base, Preferred, Essence and Avenir.
