About the 7 Series
The BMW 7 series is a sports sedan that has been on the roads since 1977, receiving big facelifts in recent years like 2013 and 2022. It aims to rival top competitors, such as the Mercedes Benz S-Class and Audi A8 by offering superior performance and luxury. It certainly excels in terms of its styling and performance but fails to impress when you try to use the infotainment system. The entry-level models also feel subpar.
Under the hood, the standard 7 Series’ come equipped with a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, which produces 320 horsepower. This engine is simply sublime and feels like a much more powerful engine than it is. It’s also smooth and refined, making it perfect for everyday use.
If you’re looking for something a little more powerful, BMW also offers a twin-turbo V12, which produces over 600 horsepower. This engine is simply incredible and makes the 7 Series one of the fastest cars on the road, let alone in the sports sedan class. Although, it will cost you a lot of money to buy and run!
The overall ride of the 7 Series is excellent. Its suspension feels soft at lower speeds, making for a comfortable ride around town. But, when you put your foot down, it seems to firm up, helping to bolster performance. And the steering is agile and sharp, making the large executive car feel even sportier.
The interior of the car is one of its weakest points. The cabin feels clinical and boring and is one of the most average-looking designs of any sports sedan. There is a decent amount of room, but again, the 7 Series is very average in this respect.
The technology in the cabin is also poor. Everything from the warning lights to the touchscreen feels cheap and faulty, which takes away from the ‘luxury’ design.
In the 2022 model year, BMW introduced the i7 line, an all-electric version of the 7 Series that sat on a platform that did away with the internal combustion engine buyers were so used to.
