About the Tonale

Alfa Romeo introduced Tonale, a C-segment SUV, as the first hybrid-powered Alfa Romeo in concept form at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show, scheduling its release for 2021. However, due to the 2020-2023 global semiconductor shortage, the release was delayed until 2022. Named after the Tonale mountain pass in Northern Italy, the car slots below the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and is similar to the Dodge Hornet. The 2024 Tonale will face rivals the 2024 Lexus UX, 2024 Audi Q3, 2024 Volvo XC40, and BMW X1.

If you are looking for outstanding performance without sacrificing efficiency, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is the smart choice. Its hybrid models have two engine options: Hybrid 160 HP and Plug-in Hybrid Q4 280 HP.

The hybrid 160 HP is a 1.5 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an inbuilt 48-volt P2 electric motor generating 15 kW (20 hp) and 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). With a total output of 118 kW (160 hp), Alfa Romeo says the hybrid system, enhanced with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, will offer impressive performance with enhanced efficiency.

Plug-in Hybrid Q4 280 HP engine is the most powerful when it comes to electrification and performance. It has a 134 kW (180 hp) 1.3-litre MultiAir turbocharged 4-cylinder engine paired with a 90 kW (121 hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb.-ft.) electric motor. The electric motor is mounted on the rear axle, and the combination gives an output of 206 kW (280 hp) and 471 Nm (347 lb.-ft.) The power is directed through a six-speed automatic transmission to a standard AWD. The PHEV uses a 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery with an all-electric driving range of 77 km.

The Tonale is 2082 mm wide, 4528 mm long, and 1601 mm tall. It also has a decent amount of cargo space: 22.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 50.5 cubic feet when the seats are folded. Tonale is available in 18-inch, 19-inch, and 20-inch alloy wheels. It also has two trims, which include Ti and veloce.

The motor company hopes Alfa Romeo Tonale will be fully electric by 2027.
