About the Transit Connect (incl. Wagon)

The Ford Transit Connect is a compact panel van that has been manufactured by the American manufacturer since 2002. During its time on the market, There have been a total of three generations released. The latest models hit the market in 2021.

The latest version represents a rebadged variant of the Volkswagen Caddy.

The Transit Connect was released in an attempt to succeed the Ford Escort and Courier models. This means it sits between the Ford Transit Courier and Transit Custom, which represent the smaller and bigger models respectively.

Competition from outside of Ford comes from the Citroën Berlingo and Fiat Doblo Cargo. As a rebadged model, it also shares a huge number of similarities with the Volkswagen Caddy.

It features a 5-door layout typical to smaller panel vans and is driven by a front-wheel drivetrain.

The Transit Connect comes with three trim levels. These are the base XL, followed by the mid-level XLT, and the top-tier Titanium trim.

Other special editions are the fully-electric Transit Connect Electric, X-Press, and Tourneo Connect.

The X-Press variant was outfitted with the same engine found in the Ford Focus RS model for a high-performance feel. The Tourneo model was a leisure variant, rather than a light commercial vehicle.

Engine options have decreased in size over the years to improve efficiency and meet carbon emission requirements. The petrol engines in the latest generation range from a 1-liter EcoBoost inline-3 up to a 2.5-liter Duratec inline-4.

Diesel models are powered by either a 1.5-liter EcoBlue or a 1.5-liter Duratorq TDCi. Both types of diesel vans are turbocharged.

Ford eventually announced the discontinuation of the model in the North American market in 2022 due to poor sales.
