About the Passport

The Honda Passport is the Japanese automaker's original Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Initially, the Passport was a badge-engineered version of the Isuzu Rodeo which was a mid-sized SUV sold between 1993 – 2002. It was introduced in 1993 for sale in 1994 and was Honda's first large SUV in Northern America.

The first and second-generation models were manufactured in the Subaru Isuzu Automotive factory in Lafayette, Indiana. Like other Hondas, a motorcycle name was reused giving the name ‘Passport.’ The partnership between Honda and Isuzu carried over to passenger cars, like the Isuzu Oasis, and trucks, like the Acura SLX.

The first-generation offered three trims, the DX, LX & EX. All had 5-speed manual transmission as standard with rear-wheel drive and 2.6-liter, 4-cylinder engines. Only the upscale EX came with the option of a 4-wheel drive.

A second generation debuted in 1997 and had only two trims (dropping the DX), later models featured a two-tone exterior and in 2010 nearly 150,000 were recalled due to a serious rust issue found to be affecting the suspension.

The third generation brought the Passport up to date, showcasing it at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 27th, 2017 with sales going live in 2019.

Manufacturing moved to Lincoln Alabama and four trims were made available: Sport, EX-L, Touring and Elite. All came with front-wheel-drive as standard again with the top-level offering all-wheel-drive.

Its third generation came with a new upgraded technology package, to include, Bluetooth, lane watch assist, rear-view back up cameras, keyless entry and push-button start. 2022 saw a new facelift that changed the front end and came with a new ‘Trail Sport’ trim which was predominantly designed for off-road journeys.
