About the F-250

The Ford F-250 is a strongly upgraded version of the F-150, known as part of the Ford Super Duty family, which also includes the F-350 and F-450. These models are distinct from the more-consumer-oriented F-150 trucks, which are more of an “everyday” model. The F-250 is the next step up, but can be described as a lot more truck than most people ordinarily need.

The Ford Super Duty family goes back to 1998 when it was launched for the 1999 model year, and all are still in production today. Ford F-250 models come in regular cab, SuperCab, or crew cab formats, and trim levels include: XL (from $42,035), XLT (from $47,880), Lariat (from $54,185), King Ranch (from $66,845), Platinum (from $70,160), and Limited (from $88,880).

When people think of the F-250, they think of the awesome power under its hood, namely in the form of the 6.2-liter SOHC 2-valve Flex Fuel V8 engine that lies in there. That goes up to a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel Engine with 1050 lb-ft of torque when you go up to the F-250 Limited trim. There’s also an optional 7.3-liter V8 gasoline option, which many of the reviewers are quick to recommend. All powertrains are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Those in need of an off-road F-250 can invest in the “Tremor” package, which adds a lift kit, stronger tires, and other upgrades perfect for the trail. When it comes to tow capacity, you get a lot more from an F-250 than a F-150, too. The F-250 can tow up to 15,000-lbs (and at least 12,300-lbs), compared to a maximum of 11,300 on the F-150.

The interior features an attractive mixture of high-quality materials, laid out in a practical and pleasing way, including a huge and very user-friendly center console. For the rear bed, buyers have a choice between a 6.75-foot bed, or an 8-foot bed.
