About the Spectra
The Kia Spectra is a compact car that was manufactured by Kia Motors between 1992 and 2009. There were two generations released and both of these were sold under different nameplates depending on the region.
Between 1992 and 2003, it was the liftback variant of the Kia Sephia. Thereafter, it was sold as the Kia Cerato as well. It was later put under the same name for both body shapes in the North American market.
The Cerato version made its debut in 2004, along with the Spectra5, which was the hatchback variant.
These various models have typically had either a 4-door sedan or 5-door hatchback layout. There was also the 5-door liftback model. Both versions were outfitted with only front-wheel drivetrains.
These have been built on the Mazda protege platform and the Hyundai-Kia J3 platform for the first and second generations respectively.
Trim levels varied depending on the region, model, and year. However, the final models were given the choice of three trims. These were the base LX, followed by the EX, and the top-tier SX.
Powertrains consisted of various petrol engines, again, depending on the region and model in question for the first generation. Kia later introduced several diesel options for the second generation.
These engines typically ranged between the smallest 1.5-liter inline-4 and the largest 2-liter Beta II inline-4. Diesel engines also ranged accordingly.
Transmission options consisted of either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual depending on the trim and engine options selected.
The second generation model was later succeeded by the Kia Ceed hatchback.
