About the Ioniq

The Hyundai Ioniq is a hybrid, that is essentially three vehicles in one. It’s a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and an all-electric vehicle, all in one. The Ioniq manages to pull this off, almost perfectly, making it one of the best hybrid choices on the market today.

Under the hood, this Hyundai is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine and an electric motor. As an electric vehicle, running only off the motor, the Ioniq is great. You’ll hear absolutely nothing as you drive down the road, albeit for a very short time. The all-electric mode isn’t going to get you very far, so at some point, you’ll have to engage the petrol engine. And this is where the peace stops.

The 1.6-liter engine makes a horrible noise and is surprisingly loud. This really takes away from the futuristic experience of the Ioniq and can get extremely annoying over time.

Thankfully, this is where the criticism ends with the Ioniq’s performance. The suspension is great and reaches a fine balance between comfort and performance. The handling is crisp and responsive and very easy to work with, no matter the task. Finally, the Ioniq is actually one of the fastest hybrids on the market, so if you’re looking for a powerful model, the Ioniq is certainly a great choice.

The interior is also great. Hyundai opted for a standard, but fully functioning interior. There’s nothing special about the design, but it does feel incredibly sturdy and durable. There’s plenty of room for passengers and cargo too. Hyundai certainly chose function over fashion, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Finally, as for infotainment, drivers will be pleased to hear that an 8-inch touchscreen comes as standard. This is well positioned, responsive and reliable. There really isn’t anything to fault when it comes to Hyundai’s tech.
