About the CT6

The Cadillac CT6 is a full-size luxury sedan car whose full name stands for “Cadillac Touring 6.” It was manufactured from 2016 to 2020 in North America but continues to be produced and sold in the Chinese market where it has found considerable popularity. The Detroit/Hamtramck facility that originally produced it in the US was retooled to make the GMC Hummer EV.

The latest version sold in the US started at $59,990 for the base Luxury trim level, with 3 other trim levels being available: Premium Luxury (from $75,490), CT6-V (from $97,190) and Platinum (from $98,790).

The big jump between the lower and upper half of the trim levels is explained chiefly by the big jump in performance level. The CT6-V, similar to previous Cadillac models with similar designations, denoted the high-performance specification models.

It had a 550-hp and 640 lb-ft Blackwing V8 engine. The Platinum trim had a similar V8, but somewhat toned down in overall power, namely 500-hp and 574 lb-ft of torque. Even standard powertrain options were fairly decent, however, including a 2.0L 4-cylinder unit and two V6 engine options outputting up to 404-hp.

While the exterior of the CT6 exuded a great deal of grandeur and status --- not to mention a very premium price tag --- the car itself failed to impress beyond its on-road driving credentials. While it was fun to drive with great handling and the impressive engine power available, the interiors were always somewhat lackluster compared to other premium rivals. This contributed in many ways to ending its production and sale in North America.

Luxury may have been somewhat lacking from the interior, but it was well equipped with USB ports, a decent 8-inch touchscreen, a 34-speaker Bose premium sound system, and smartphone compatibility. In addition, its longer and wider stature made it far roomier inside than the CTS and other models in the same family.
