About the TLX

For those looking for a high-quality 4-door executive sedan car, the Acura TLX has a lot to offer. The TLX was first launched back in 2014 for the 2015 model year, and has since been highly regarded by review sites and buyers alike.

The formerly all-powerful sedan segment is now playing second fiddle to the much more competitive crossover segment, of course, but OEMs all over the world continue to offer sedan models in earnest. The TLX competes against such models as the BMW 3-Series, Genesis G70, Audi A5, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

For the most part, the Acura TLX represents better value than these options, with the very latest models having an estimated starting MSRP of $40,000, and even its top-end Type S sports model starting at just $55,000. That’s more affordable than virtually any BMW 3-Series or M3 model you’d see.

The TLX is powered by a 272-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that’s paired up with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and a FWD drivetrain as standard. Acura offers an AWD system --- SH-AWD --- to shift power between wheels as needed in a similar way that Quattro does for Audi.

Despite its decent power rating and optional AWD, the acceleration is a little more sluggish than one might hope, owing mostly to the huge curb weight of about 2 tons. It’ll still do 0 to 60-mph in a fraction under 6 seconds. The Type S trim comes with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers up to 355-hp, which is better for satisfying those with the real need for speed.

The interior features attractive features such as a rotary dial for drive mode selection, analog dials, soft-touch materials, open-pore wood, brushed metal accents, and so on. Leather seating and a 10.5-inch central infotainment display are also prominent interior features, adding to comfort and convenience.
