About the XK

The Jaguar XK was released in 1996 and was a staple of the British company’s lineup until its discontinuation in 2014. While the XK and F-Type share many similarities, they are not directly related.

The XK is a two-door model that falls under the grand tourer class. As a GT model, it features the typical 2+2 seating layout, with two rear seats. There is a 3-door convertible coupé variant called the XK X150.

Like most Jaguars, the XK’s competition is mainly from German manufacturers. These are cars like the Audi R8 and Porsche 911.

All variants of the Jaguar XK feature front-mounted engines and rear-wheel drive.

The first generation came onto the market to replace the XJS. It was also Jaguar’s first 8-cylinder engine since the much older Daimler models. Unsurprisingly, Jaguar took pride in this fact and marketed the first XK as the XK8.

The engines found in the XK were initially a 4-liter and later a 5-liter petrol V8. There was also a supercharged variant of the XK, named the XKR.

The option of a 5- or 6-speed transmission was also given to the XK.

The second generation of the XK came in 2006 after its debut the year before. The second generation featured a significant restyling of the exterior, as well as an updated interior.

It then received a facelift in 2009, becoming more similar in appearance to the Jaguars of today. Changes in the facelift involved reshaping the bumper, headlights, and taillights. It also came with the release of the larger 5-liter.

In 2011, the XK was given yet another facelift, again with small modifications to the exterior.

The XKR model was given a performance boost in 2012 upon the release of the XKR-S.
