About the Touran

While the wider market does seem to be showing a shift toward SUV-based models rather than minivan-style vehicles, there is still plenty of demand for the latter. This is shown in the VW minivan model, the Volkswagen Touran. This customizable, connected and efficient minivan combines VW’s signature design language into an eminently practical and attractive family car.

What's great is the fact that the Touran is built on the same well-engineered platform that is also used under the Golf compact car also from VW.

Where minivan designs over the years have tended towards either the outlandish or relentlessly practical, the Touran brings together enough pleasing features from the VW design playbook to make it more appealing than the average minivan. There’s a hands-free tailgate, panoramic sunroof, tinted rear windows for privacy and comfort, sleek silver roof rails, and even an R-Line version with sleek 18-inch alloy rims, a more stylish front grille and R-Line bumpers.

Since a family car like this is a prime candidate for extended road trips and shared use between different parents, it features a seat memory setting to allow Mom, Dad and whoever else is remembered to switch settings seamlessly with minimum fuss --- and less argument! There’s an advanced dual-clutch gearbox, advanced air conditioning, money-saving Eco drive mode and more that can all be personalized to the individual driver, and seamlessly switched.

ADAS features in the Touran include VW’s adaptive cruise control, lane assist, automatic emergency braking, and “City Emergency Braking” which aims to prevent low-speed fender benders. For those who take everything with them but the kitchen sink on vacation, the Touran also comes with Trailer Assist features, which make towing a lot easier.

The VW Touran seats up to 7 people with 3 seated in the second row, and a further 2 in the third row. You can lower all the rear seats to create a flat loading floor, plus a great deal more cargo space. There are only 4.8 cubic feet with all 3 rows up, but that goes up to 32.7 cubic feet with the 3rd row down, and up to 65.6 cubic feet with the 2nd row down flat. It’s the ultimate in practicality, even if you’re not keen on the vanilla minivan build.
