About the ID.4

The EV segment is no longer just high-end Teslas and mid-range Nissan Leafs and Chevy Bolts anymore. All the major OEMs are getting in on the electric bandwagon, and the VW ID.4 has proven to be something of a game-changer for Volkswagen. This compact electric crossover has proven to be a big hit in both European and North American markets.

The Volkswagen ID.4 competes with many other emerging electric SUVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Kona Electric and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Its latest version has had its fast charging speed boosted from 125 to 135 kW, and also comes with a greater single-charge driving range of up to 268 miles. That’s still some way behind the 330 miles offered as a max range for the Tesla Model Y, but it’s very respectable.

Some were initially disappointed by the ID.4 interior as it was clearly less flashy than the proposed interior shown in previous concepts that led to the ID.4. However, it didn’t take long for people to start to appreciate the quality, as well as the cool features, clean lines, ambient lighting and more. The standard 19.2 cubic feet of cargo space is also quite generous, more so than most competitors.

At the center of the interior is an impressive and intuitive 12-inch touchscreen display, to which you can wirelessly connect your smartphone for seamless integration. It also feels very satisfyingly high-tech and futuristic to simply climb into the driver’s seat, key fob in your pocket, and the car startup and recognize you automatically.

On the road, many have remarked at the amazing difference the optional AWD and additional electric motor makes, delivering superlative handling and a fun, quick and dynamic drive. With prices starting around $41,000, it’s cheaper than some rivals but more expensive than others. You get a lot of quality for that price point, a typical VW trait.
