About the Baleno
The Suzuki Baleno is a series of vehicles that have been used by Suzuki since 1995. The latest version is a subcompact hatchback that made its debut in 2015.
This latest iteration has boasted two generations to hit the various markets. It has also been sold under different brands, depending on the market. These are the Toyota Glanza and Toyota Starlet in India and Africa respectively. These were released in 2019, along with a facelift.
It is built on the HEARTECT B platform and is driven by a front-wheel drivetrain and a front-engine layout.
It is often considered to be the bigger sibling to the Suzuki Swift, both sharing the 5-door layout. It also competes with models like the Volkswagen Polo and Hyundai i20.
Trim levels are heavily dependent on the region in which the car is sold. The most notable of these are the two trim levels in the United Kingdom, the SZ-T and SZ5. Other markets typically received the GL and GLX trim options. These regions include Australia, Latin America, and Africa.
The biggest difference between these trims is the safety features and disc brakes.
Powertrains consist of petrol and hybrid engines and a single diesel engine. The petrol options range from a turbocharged 1.0 L Boosterjet inline-3 up to a 1.4 L inline-4. There is only a turbocharged 1.25 L Fiat inline-4 engine available for diesel options.
Hybrids consist of either a 1.2 L or a 1.25 L Dualjet inline-4 mild hybrid technology. The MHEV version is powered by the 12-Volt Mild Hybrid Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system.
These engines are combined with several different transmissions. All are offered with a 5-speed manual, while only some versions have a 4-speed and 6-speed automatic option available. There is also a continuously variable transmission found with the K12M engine.
