About the Megane Scenic
The Renault Megane Scenic was the name given to a Renault Scenic body style from 1996. It’s a compact minivan model that has been in continuous production since its initial launch in 1996.
In total, there have been 4 generations of the Renault Scenic, the first being the Renault Megane Scenic, which was released as a minivan counterpart to the Renault Megane hatchback. The two versions were mechanically the same, sharing the same set of powertrains: 1.4L, 1.6L, and 1.8L petrol engines, and a 1.9L diesel engine.
The main difference between the two was that the compact minivan --- also known as a multi-purpose vehicle in the UK and European markets where the car enjoyed huge popularity --- offered a lot more utility and scope as a family car.
Renault never anticipated that the Megane Scenic would be so popular, but in fact, it was. They had originally planned and prepared to produce 450 units per day, but popular demand forced them to increase that. At the car’s popularity peak, production was at 2,500 units per day.
The car underwent facelifts and changes for every generation, but even within the first-generation Megane Scenic models changes were made to the exterior design with, among other things, brand-new front and rear light design, as well some interior improvements like added storage.
Renault even launched a 4WD version, the Scenic RX4 in 2000, which featured some more typical SUV styling points on its exterior. One prominent addition was the spare tire mounted on the rear door.
In its latest version, the Scenic IV, the car has undergone major modernization, including a sportier exterior with more athletic and contemporary lines, and attractive alloy wheels. The interior too has received a modern facelift, as well as cutting-edge features like lane keep assist, and driver fatigue detection.
