About the Picanto

The Kia Picanto is a small city car that has failed to keep up with the times by running purely on petrol, and not a hybrid or fully electric system. The Picanto faces tough competition from the likes of VW and Hyundai, but for the most part, keeps up fairly well. Despite failing to keep up with the times, the Picanto is very attractive to a wide audience.

Under the hood, the Kia Picanto is equipped with a 1.0 litre MPI, producing an underwhelming 60 miles per hour. This engine allows the car to accelerate from 0-60 in 14 seconds, which does sound horrendously slow. But, if you drive only in the city, this lack of power will go largely unnoticed. However, if you step foot on the motorway, the lack of power will become immediately apparent as you’ll struggle to get it to 70 miles per hour.

Whilst the Picanto leaves much to be desired in terms of power, it makes up for this with excellent handling. Firm suspension and hard steering allow you to be agile in corners and use all of the power pretty much all of the time. This can make for a really fun experience, as you’ll feel a lot faster than you actually are!

The interior of the Picanto is nothing special, but it does work. For the money you pay for, the materials are of high quality and the overall build feels very sturdy and secure. Couple this with a leather steering wheel, and the interior is nice enough to beat its rivals.

If you’re looking for an excellent infotainment system, the Kia Picanto may not be for you. Standard models come with a very outdated monochrome screen. This can be tricky to use whilst driving, and if you’re looking for more modern technology, you might want to consider the Dacia Sandero.
