About the Escalade

When people are looking for a full-size luxury Cadillac SUV, they tend to look no further than the Cadillac Escalade. This huge SUV was actually Cadillac’s first big entry into the highly competitive SUV marketplace and has since become its main flagship model in the sea of competition.

The Escalade first arrived back in the 1999 model year just in time to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Land Rover Range Rover, and the Lincoln Navigator --- quite the luxury lineup, you’ll likely agree.

The Escalade is currently in its fifth generation which was refreshed and renewed for the 2021 model year. Though some have always questioned its sheer size and bulk, the Escalade nonetheless receives decent reviews for its performance, and especially for its comfort levels.

The largest powertrain currently on offer is a 6.2L V8 that outputs up to 420-hp paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The V8 engine, even when carrying the long-wheelbase version of the Escalade, carries the SUV from 0 to 60 in just 5.9 seconds.

If you opt for the larger engine, there’s also a fuel-saving feature where it can shut down half its cylinders when cruising on the highway in order to save some fuel. This helped raise the standard 20-mph highway rating for the Escalade to 23-mpg. Still, opting for the diesel version is the best way to get superior economy, delivering 21-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway.

On the inside, the new Escalade features many of the best Cadillac features, which is perhaps to be expected from the flagship SUV model. Even the base-level gets faux leather, but the others get sumptuous real leather, including on the dash, door panels and more. The long-wheelbase model is particularly generous with legroom in all 3 seating rows.
