About the Giulia

The Giulia line from Alfa Romeo has been running since the 1960s.

Although originally a large family car, the newer model that was reintroduced in 2016 is now classed as a compact executive.

It replaced the 159, a popular sight on many European roads since its introduction in 2004.

Unlike the 159 though, Alfa Romeo decided to switch away from the front-wheel-drive and make the Giulia rear-wheel-drive.

Some of the models on sale though are four-wheel-drive if desired by the buyer.

For the 2017 model year, the Italian sports car company took the chassis from this car and created the Stelvio compact crossover SUV.

It was essentially the same car underneath (except being slightly wider to compensate for the taller body) but with an SUV-like body on top.

You can find the same engines on offer between the 2 models including a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 developed by Ferrari.

That V6 option is found in the Quadrifoglio performance trim of the Giulia and propels the car to 60mph in just over 3.5 seconds.

Alongside the Quadrifoglio is a series of special editions such as the B-Tech and GTA.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia did exceptionally well during crash testing by Euro NCAP in 2016 and then by IIHS in 2017.

Both agencies found the cars to be very safe and achieved near-perfect scores thanks to their range of autonomous safety equipment.
