About the Talisman
Renault, the French car manufacturer sold the Tailsman from 2015 in an attempt to fully replace the Laguna and Latitude. Created by Renault Samsung in South Korea, the Tailsman is a large family car capable of seating 5 people.
Renault explains the name was chosen to mean ‘a magical object providing protection against ill will.’ An estate version was sold a little while after the first saloon and both were shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Built upon the CMF CD Platform along with the Megane and the Espace, the Tailsman was only made in left-hand drive, Renault never intended to issue a right-hand drive variant. Obviously, this meant the markets in which the Tailsman could be sold were restricted.
The Tailsman (much greater in size than the Laguna) was Renault's attempt to appeal to the ‘larger’ family, demanding an increased stake in this market. In fact, this car was Renault’s first larger passenger vehicle manufactured since the 1980s. In addition to family sales, Renault styled the Tailsman in such a way that it could translate into sales for the corporate world too. Classically styled but with a modern twist, this vehicle appealed to parents and companies alike. Numerous trims were created, again to widen the appeal and usage of the vehicles, these were PE, SE, LE and RE, ranging from the basic to upmarket.
2018 saw a facelift for South Korea alone, the main improvements were made internally, predominantly to the vehicle technology with little change showing externally. Here, four ‘comfort’ settings were added, these would adapt the vehicle's behavior to suit the driver and intended use, namely, these were Comfort, Sport, Eco and Neutral, the latter could be manually altered allowing for customer self-configuration. To easily control the new technology, an 8.7-inch touchscreen was inserted into the dashboard. Production ended in 2022 after an arguably short run of just 7 years .
